Some Interesting Uses & Facts About Scents

All our products are fresh, clean and pure.  For best results, store all products tightly capped, with no excess air in the container, in a cool dark place (refrigerator).

In low wind conditions ~ use scents and lure sparingly (3-4 drops or just a single spray is enough).  Too much scent will permeate the area causing deer to loose interest. Too much is unnatural.

Make your cover scents and eliminators work overtime by placing several drops of scent eliminator on each of your hunting garments and place them in a tightly sealed plastic bag or box with a couple of extra drops (not recommended for Fox urine).

All scents and lures work best when used in conjunction with a masking or cover scent.

Fox urine is a natural cover scent and is extremely effective.  Apply to exterior of rubber boots or along the ground in the area in which you plan to hunt.  Do NOT over apply.

Use clean scent dispensers ~ do not handle without rubber gloves.  Doe In Estrus contains sexual ingredients and should be used during pre-rut and rut. Do not use in early season as this may scare deer (both bucks and does).  Doe In Estrus attracts bucks during prerut and rut and it may scare does who are not in preheat or heat.  (They do not want a rut-crazed buck chasing them!)  Most unbred does and doe fawns will come into heat on a 27-day cycle if not bred in the 'first rut'.  Using a non-sexual scent (doe/buck urine) will work during rut by attracting both sexes.  Doe urine will work by attracting bucks checking for a Doe In Estrus and curious does checking the new comer out and where does go, bucks follow.  Buck urine will attract bucks especially with tarsal gland added to it.  However, dominant buck urine will attract a dominant buck but may scare off immature bucks and does.

Doe In Estrus and Buck In Rut gels can be used in all weather conditions (won't wash away in rain or snow) and generally will last longer than liquid scents.  Gels don't evaporate as quickly.  They work well with liquid scents.  Place gel on limbs and branches about 2-3 feet off the ground for 100+/- yards to and from your stand.  Do this by removing the cap and dipping a limb or branch into jar.  Be careful not to touch the limbs/branches with your hand.  Always wear rubber gloves.  Dip a series of branches or twigs in a concentrated area (clear open area) where you want deer to stop.  You can also use the gel jar as a stopper (place in open area where you want the deer to stop).  Do NOT touch without rubber gloves.

Soak a clean scent dispenser, cotton rag or string in one of our scents.  Drag to your stand (crossing deer trails as you go).  Drag 100-150 yards circling your tree stand.  Lay dispenser, rag or string at the base of your stand.  The higher you hunt, the better (minimum 15').  Drop several drops of urine/scent where you want the deer to stop.

Place scent pads on the bottom of your boots (our hanging felt scent pads can be used with a rubber band).  Place urine on the scent pads every 10-15 steps.  Reapply as you go.  Circle your tree stand.  Drop several drops of scent in a clearing in the area you want the deer to stop.

Use liquid and gel scents, tarsal gland with buck and doe decoys.  Wearing rubber gloves, place clean cotton rag, scent dispenser or sponge under the tail of the decoy.  Apply scent.  Walk into area you want deer to stop in using scent pads on your boots, place your deer decoy.

Mock scrapes should be started early and be the first scrapes of the season.  Use Northern Whitetail's 100% pure tarsal gland lure in a mock or real scrape. Clear scrape with stick (wearing rubber gloves); pour tarsal gland into the scrap (very effective in a natural scrape).  Freshen scrape every 3 days (wax paper placed 1-2" under dirt will make scents last longer.  You can also use a dripper.  Don't forget that a mock scrape needs to be close to a bedding area and it needs an overhanging branch.  Once scrapes appear in your hunting area, scrape off the top inch of dirt and place it in your mock scrape.  This will drive 'em crazy!

Use Northern Whitetail's Doe In Estrus urine and Buck Urine in a mock or natural scrape by laying a scent trail to the scrape from two (2) different directions.  Use buck in one direction and Doe In Estrus in the other (will create the illusion that a Doe In Estrus is being pursued by a buck or bucks at the scrape site). Use Intruder Scent (urines from 2 different bucks~one younger, one older) and tarsal gland (causes bucks to investigate area for intruder).  This is very effective.  Bucks will scent check scrapes downwind and will charge in (be ready for an unsuspected shot).

Use Buck and Doe In Estrus on separate clean cotton rags or scent pads (left and right) walk and drag to tree stand site.  Add freshen scent every 10-15 steps.

On breezy days, take a mist or spray bottle (Northern Whitetail has a 2 oz.) and spray frequently from your tree stand (one pump/spray every hour).

Use Northern Whitetail's scent dispensers/pads.  Add scent to the plastic bag; remove hangers from the bag using a twig or rubber gloves and hang several (4-8) around your tree stand area where you want the deer to stop.  When you're done hunting for the day, place hangers back in resealable zip-lock bag and refrigerate.

Wearing rubber gloves, place several 35mm film canisters filled with cotton balls and fresh Northern Whitetail urine around your tree stand location.  Place in areas where you want the deer to stop.

Under the right circumstances and situations, Northern Whitetail Scents can become your best hunting companion.  They can mean the difference between success and failure, no shot and a perfect shot.

Success starts with a 'clean hunter'.  You must eliminate as many human and foreign odors as possible and before you leave for your hunt.

1. Shower or bath using scent eliminators.
2. Wash hunting clothes (hats, gloves, socks, etc.) with scent eliminators.
3. Spray and clean your hunting equipment with scent eliminators (be sure to     include your boots, fannie packs, seats, tree stand, etc.)
4. Be extremely careful of the gun oils or lubricants used on your weapons.      Use an unscented oil that is free of chemical odors.
5. Use rubber-bottomed boots only for hunting. (Don't use the same boots to    work on your car, cut firewood, clean the garage, etc.)
6. Use rubber gloves when handling scents, dispensers, drag rags, etc.
7. Don't smoke or 'chew' in your stand.
8. Hunt high (15' minimum).
9. Hunt hard (don't hunt in your stand for an hour and move).  Set-up and      hunt.
10.Use natural camo in your tree stand.  (Don't outline yourself).
11.Make slow careful movements if you must move.
12.Bring a urine bottle (do not urinate from your stand).
13.Use scents, lures and cover scents correctly.  Do not contaminate or over     use. Properly store and seal them. They're a tool, not a guarantee.
14.Know your hunting location.  The best scents and lures won't work if          you're hunting the wrong area.  Scout out your area well before your         season.  Know your feeding and bedding area.  You won't get your buck if   there aren't any in the area.
15.Never apply scents directly on your body (it will draw attention to you)
